Nuclear War Survival Skills

By Cresson Kearny Forward By Dr. Edward Teller

Nuclear War Survival Skills provides instructions that have enabled untrained Americans to make high-protection-factor expedient shelters, effective air pumps to ventilate and cool shelters, the only homemakeable fallout radiation meter that is accurate and dependable, and other life-support equipment.

These instructions have been developed by Oak Ridge National Laboratory civil defense researches and others over the past several years, and have been field-tested repeatedly under simulated crisis conditions.

You and your family can improve your chances of surviving during and after a nuclear attack by learning the nuclear facts and following the self-help instructions provided in this book.

Passport To Survival

By Rita Bingham and Esther Dickey

The basic premise of this book is that for everyone, even for us who live in America, the time will probably come when food and other necessities are unobtainable.

This situation may be brought about by any one of a number of causes - personal sickness or injury, unemployment, war, riot, transportation strikes, and so on.

With such a small percentage of our population engaged in farming our urban society is particularly vulnerable and any interruption in the supply of food would cause markets to empty within hours and people would be unable to acquire even the most basic foods.

Plan Not Panic
By Barbara G. Salsbury

The Manual for 72-Hour Survival and Emergency Evacuation.

It only takes once for an evacuation situation to quickly disrupt your entire life, as many have discovered in the recent rash of deadly hurricanes, world-shaking earthquakes and mega-disasters that have been sweeping the world.

You must have noted as the headlines have emblazoned the news for a seemingly few, sensational seconds; disastrous events, disasters and crisis don’t make appointments before they come calling!

If you, like many others, allow your resolve to do something fade along with the headlines, perhaps there is a reason. Perhaps you, along with others don’t understand how or where to begin. We have discovered that the book "Plan … Not Panic" has the answers and solutions.

In "Plan... Not Panic", Barbara shows you step by step not only how to begin, but how to meet your individual needs in order to survive an evacuation with confidence—and even a bit of comfort.

If you think you want to purchase a commercial kit the book will guide you through the areas that will need to be personalized.

The Sense Of Survival
By Jay Allan South

A Practical Guide to Surviving Disasters and Preparing for Emergencies

With this book, South presents the reader with virtually all-imaginable aspects of disaster preparedness and emergency response and mitigation. This book is an absolute "must have" for the prudent-minded individual that is serious about disaster preparedness, response and recovery.

Section I is a description of several possible disastrous events and procedures to provide protection from them. It is mostly about nuclear war but also includes a brief rundown on chemical and biological warfare and several natural disasters. The emphasis is on how to protect yourself.

Section II is an informative nuts-and-bolts discussion of the necessities of life and their acquisition on a survival level, including information on how to grow, gather, store, and use food (plant and animal); put together a "14- day Emergency Kit;" obtain and store water; select and use equipment; obtain shelter; maintain sanitary conditions; select weapons; prepare for communication and signaling; and other miscellaneous pertinent subjects. A brief moral/philosophical discussion of survival and use of weapons appears in the chapter on weapons.

Section III is a brief primer on medical care, including first aid and the use of herbs for some common maladies. First-aid equipment and procedures are the main subjects. The growing and using of some time-tested herbs are also discussed.
